Charles celebrates 60 — again
Singer Rod Stewart headlined a star-studded bash for Prince Charles' 60th birthday party Saturday in England. The pop star performed at the party given by Charles' wife, Camilla, at their Highgrove estate in southwest England. It was the third celebration in a week for the prince, who turned 60 Friday. His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, held a dinner party and concert at Buckingham Palace on Thursday. On Friday, the prince was honored with a 41-gun salute in London's Hyde Park and a celebration with young people sponsored by his charity. Among the guests at Saturday's bash were comedian Rowan Atkinson and actresses Dame Judi Dench and Joanna Lumley. Britain's Press Association reported that Princes William and Harry and their girlfriends, Kate Middleton and Chelsy Davy, respectively, also attended the party.
Lohan hit by flour bomb
Actress Lindsay Lohan, 22, was pelted with a flour bomb early Saturday after she arrived at a Paris nightclub wearing a fur stole. Animal-rights activists showered the actress with flour when she went to the VIP Room Theater with her friend, disc jockey Samantha Ronson.
A "Simpsons" puzzler
It seems being the puzzle pooh-bahs of the world, including starring in the movie "Wordplay," wasn't enough for crossword-puzzle creators Merl Reagle and Will Shortz. Now they can add to their résumé tonight's guest stint on "The Simpsons." "Actually, we just stand around in one scene," Reagle told The Philadelphia Inquirer. Reagle was told he could not fully reveal the show's plot. He could say Lisa Simpson gets hooked on crossword puzzles and enters a tournament. In a short segment toward the end, Reagle and Shortz help the Simpsons heal their crossword wounds. "The jokes are at our expense," Reagle said.
Curry is feeling the climb
Climbing Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro is no weekend hike, and the "Today" show's Ann Curry was feeling it Saturday. The NBC reporter was sent on assignment for the popular morning show's "Ends of the Earth" feature, which begins Monday. The program's four chief personalities will embark on lengthy road trips to illustrate environmental stories. "To be honest with you, I'm not sure I'm going to make it to the top," Curry, who turns 52 Wednesday, said in a telephone interview Saturday. "Today" is sending Meredith Vieira to Australia, Al Roker to Iceland and Matt Lauer to Belize.

Teen begins solo voyage
Michael Perham, 16, set out Saturday in an attempt to become the youngest person to sail solo around the world. The young Brit left Portsmouth, England, on his Open 50 Racing Yacht and was expected to be alone at sea for more than four months. His only contact with his family is to be through satellite link-ups. Perham said he plans to sleep in short breaks while the boat is controlled by autopilot. He is expected to be back in Portsmouth near his 17th birthday March 16. He'll be chasing, figuratively, Zac Sunderland, 16, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., who is about halfway through his voyage around the world. Sutherland also aspires to be the youngest to sail solo around the world.
