Mackenzie Phillips arrested at LAX on suspicion of narcotics possession

Actress Mackenzie Phillips, 48, was arrested on suspicion of possession of cocaine and heroin by Los Angeles International Airport police Wednesday after suspected narcotics were discovered during a screening by federal security staff, authorities said. Airport police Sgt. Jim Holcomb said the former co-star of the sitcom "One Day At a Time" was heading to New York when she failed to pass a security screening. She is the daughter of the late John Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas. She has struggled with drug addiction and was fired from "One Day At a Time" for drug-related causes. She went on to star in the Disney Channel series "So Weird" and has made intermittent TV and Broadway appearances in recent years.

Blogger arrested

Federal authorities said they arrested a blogger suspected of streaming songs from Guns N' Roses' unreleased album, "Chinese Democracy," on his Web site. FBI agents arrested Kevin Cogill, 27, on Wednesday on suspicion of violating federal copyright laws. Federal authorities said Cogill posted nine unreleased Guns N' Roses songs on his Web site in June. The songs were removed.

Rap mogul jailed

Rap-music mogul Marion "Suge" Knight, 43, was jailed Wednesday in Las Vegas on assault and drug charges after he was accused of beating his girlfriend while brandishing a knife, police said. Knight, 43, the founder of bankrupt Death Row Records in Los Angeles, was arrested on a street near the Las Vegas Strip. Police responding to a domestic-violence call found Knight standing over his longtime girlfriend with the knife in his hand. Police did not identify the woman, who told officers she was Knight's girlfriend of three years.

Sheridan, Bolton split

Nicollette Sheridan, 44, and Michael Bolton, 55, have ended their second go-round at the happily-ever-after. A representative for the "Desperate Housewives" star said the breakup was amicable. Bolton first hooked up with Sheridan in '92. The couple broke up five years later, only to resume their passion in '05.

Diamond offers refund

Singer Neil Diamond, 67, has apologized for performing at his Monday concert in Columbus, Ohio, with a raspy voice. Diamond, who was diagnosed with acute laryngitis after the concert, offered concertgoers a refund and rescheduled two concerts this week in Green Bay, Wis., and St. Louis.

Dalai Lama is ailing

The Dalai Lama, 73, was suffering from exhaustion and canceled two planned international trips to undergo medical tests in India, his office said Wednesday. The Nobel Peace Prize winner and Tibetan spiritual leader just ended an 11-day visit to France.

Del Martin, 87, pioneering lesbian-rights activist who married her lifelong partner in June on the first day that California's same-sex couples gained that right, died Wednesday at a San Francisco hospital; her wife, Phyllis Lyon, was by her side.

Yuri Nosenko, 81, a Soviet KGB agent whose defection to the United States in 1964 and subsequent three-year harsh detention and hostile interrogation by CIA officials remains controversial, died Saturday under an assumed name in a Southern state.
