YouTube video helps grant Broadway mogul divorce

Celebrity gossip, famous birthdays and other tidbits, compiled from Seattle Times news services.

Tricia Walsh Smith's original YouTube video

Day in court

Exhibit A: YouTube video

A Broadway mogul whose wife trashed him in a widely viewed Internet video was granted a divorce from her Monday. A Manhattan judge gave Philip Smith a divorce from Tricia Walsh-Smith on the grounds of cruel and inhuman treatment. Walsh-Smith lashes out against Smith in the tearful and furious YouTube video, which has attracted more than 3 million hits. She makes embarrassing claims about their intimate life and then calls his office to repeat those claims to a stunned assistant. Judge Harold Beeler blasted Walsh-Smith for her video stunt, and said Monday that the prenuptial agreement, signed three weeks before the couple's 1999 wedding, was valid.

Ancient Bible

The oldest surviving copy of the New Testament, a 4th century version that had its Gospels and epistles spread across the world, is being made whole again — online. The British Library says the full text of the Codex Sinaiticus will be available to Web users by next July, digitally reconnecting parts that are held in Britain, Russia, Germany and a monastery in Egypt's Sinai Desert.

27 months in jail

Blake Fielder-Civil, Amy Winehouse's husband, was sentenced Monday in London to 27 months in jail for assault and obstructing justice. He has admitted beating up pub manager James King in a barroom fight in 2006 and then offering him $400,000 to keep quiet about it. Winehouse, who has regaled concert audiences with appeals for the release of "my Blake," was not at the court. Fielder-Civil has spent almost nine months in jail and could be freed in December, after completing half his sentence.
