Just in from the Mayor's Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs: $225,000 will be awarded to 38 Seattle film, media, literary and visual arts projects through the CityArtist program.
Projects approved for 2008 include a poetry manuscript examining spirituality and identity from the perspective of a Portuguese-American Jew, a documentary about local break-dancers, and a choreographed performance merging dance with media supported by artificial intelligence and robotics.
Ranging from $2,000 to $10,000, with an average award of $5,921, the awards are investments in artists' work that, in a prepared statement, Mayor Greg Nickels said will "challenge, inspire and engage the community."
