Odds and Ends

Live, from New York ... John McCain

Celebrity gossip, famous birthdays and other tidbits, compiled from Seattle Times news services.

John McCain is 71 years old, and his age has provided late-night comics with some easy punch lines. On "Saturday Night Live," he joined in. "I ask you, what should we be looking for in our next president?" McCain said. "Certainly, someone who is very, very, very old." Later, during the program's "Weekend Update" segment, McCain urged Democrats not to rush to choose between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.

Ashlee in Wonderland

Ashlee Simpson, the pop-star little sis of Jessica Simpson, and Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz tied the knot Saturday night at her parents' Los Angeles-area home with an "Alice in Wonderland" theme, according to People magazine. Simpson, 23, and Wentz, 28, exchanged wedding vows at the property in Encino, Calif. Joe Simpson, her father, performed the nondenominational ceremony and sister Jessica was the maid of honor, the magazine said.

"WKRP" actress weds

Loni Anderson was married Saturday to Bob Flick, a founding member of the 1960s folk group The Brothers Four. The ceremony was attended by friends and family, including son Quinton Reynolds, who walked the "WKRP in Cincinnati" and "Nurses" star down the aisle. Reynolds is Anderson's son with Burt Reynolds, whom she divorced in 1993. Anderson, 62, plans to keep her maiden name.
