KMPS-FM's Don Riggs, the morning news host, is retiring after 55 years as a broadcaster. Riggs has delivered the news at the country music station for more than 33 years. His final broadcast is Friday.

Riggs' career began in 1953 at KLAN radio in Renton. He's also worked at KUOW, KULE, KISW, KIRO and KVI as well as a radio producer for the Voice of United Nations Command when he was drafted by the U.S. Army in 1959.

"In the words of one of our country songs, 'Everybody knows him an' everybody loves him. God, I'm gonna miss him when he's gone. He is the last of a dying breed," KMPS program director Becky Brenner said about the broadcaster in a news release.

Riggs plans to enjoy the small things in life, like no longer waking up at 3 a.m., and traveling in a motor home with his wife, Maria.
