Odds and Ends

SNL alum Fallon weds

Celebrity gossip, famous birthdays and other tidbits, compiled from Seattle Times news services.

People

Former longtime "Saturday Night Live" performer Jimmy Fallon, 33, and movie producer Nancy Juvonen, 40, were married in the Caribbean, a publicist said Saturday. Fallon and Juvonen married in a Dec. 22 ceremony on Necker Island "with family and close friends in attendance," Ina Treciokas said. It was the first marriage for both. No details were released.

Actress faces DUI charge

First Rebecca De Mornay was arrested Oct. 30 for a traffic violation in Beverly Hills, Calif., when officers smelled alcohol on her breath. Now, she's been charged with one count of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and one count of driving with a blood-alcohol level more than the legal limit of .08. De Mornay, 48, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday. Calls to her representatives were not returned.

Upbeat

It pays to be nice

For nearly seven years Melina Salazar did her best to put on a smile and tend to the every need of her most loyal and cantankerous customer, smiling through his demands and curses. Walter "Buck" Swords, 89, seems to have appreciated it, leaving the waitress $50,000 and a 2000 Buick when he died. "I still can't believe it," the Luby's cafeteria employee told Harlingen, Texas, television station KGBT-TV in an interview during which she described Swords as "kind of mean." Swords died in July, but Salazar learned a few days before Christmas that he had left her the money and car.

Oops!

The truth will out

Burglary suspect Daniel Cabral, 22, who gave a false home address to police after his arrest, didn't count on one thing: getting robbed himself. New Bedford, Mass., police say Cabral was arrested Wednesday and charged with burglarizing a University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, building. He was arraigned and released until his next court date. Hours later, he was robbed at gunpoint while walking home from a bar. He reported the robbery to police, this time giving them his real address. Police later searched his home and said they found university equipment that had been reported stolen.

1907: The Mills Commission issued its final report, which concluded that Abner Doubleday was the inventor of baseball, a claim Doubleday never made. (Few, if any, sports historians take this finding seriously.)

2006: Iraqis awoke to news that Saddam Hussein had been hanged.
