Bill Murray says he drove golf cart drunk
Bill Murray could face a drunken-driving charge after cruising through downtown Stockholm in a golf cart and refusing to take a breath test, citing U.S. law.
STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Bill Murray could face a drunken-driving charge after cruising through downtown Stockholm in a golf cart and refusing to take a breath test, citing U.S. law.
Police officers spotted the "Caddyshack" star early Monday in the slow-moving vehicle and noticed he smelled of alcohol when they pulled him over, said Detective-Inspector Christer Holmlund.
"He refused to blow in the [breath test] instrument, citing American legislation," Holmlund said Wednesday. "So we applied the old method — a blood test. It will take 14 days before the results are in."
Murray, who had been at a golf tournament in Sweden, signed a document admitting that he was driving under the influence, and agreed to let a police officer plead guilty for him if the case goes to court.
"Then he was let go. My guess is he went back to America," Holmlund said.
He said Murray would be charged if tests show his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit, which is quite low in Sweden.
Ventriloquist takes top "Talent" title
NEW YORK — Working with puppets has certainly paid off for Terry Fator.
The crowd-pleasing ventriloquist and impersonator was named the winner of NBC's "America's Got Talent" in the variety contest's second-season finale Tuesday night.
"Terry, you've done it! You are the best new act in America, and you have won $1 million!" said host Jerry Springer.
Fator, who took up ventriloquism at age 10, impressed judges David Hasselhoff, Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne with his impersonations of legends including Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Roy Orbison — and Kermit the Frog.

Lawyer: Jailed rapper is pregnant
NEW YORK — Foxy Brown was hauled off to jail Wednesday after a judge revoked her probation.
The 27-year-old rapper was accused of violating the terms of her release after she was arrested earlier this month on charges she smacked her neighbor with her cellphone. Authorities said Brown also skipped her anger-management classes and traveled out of the city without permission.
Brown's lawyer, state Sen. John Sampson, told the judge that Brown is three months' pregnant. He said Brown has turned her life around with her pregnancy, wedding plans and deals for a reality television show.
Train-wreck trio to join "Apprentice"?
Donald Trump says he wants the train-wreck triumvirate of Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears for the next edition of "The Apprentice," which will be a midseason entry at NBC.
Trump told the New York Post that he's talking with Spears, has heard of Hilton's interest and plans to contact Lohan soon as well, presumably after her rehab stint.
The celebrity "Apprentice" was a late addition to the NBC schedule this summer, and as such will probably be a midseason show. The show's most recent season averaged just 7.5 million viewers in the spring, less than half the audience it gathered in its first couple of runs.
Among those Trump claims already on board for the show are Kimora Lee Simmons, Carmen Electra and George Foreman.
Midler fined for cutting her trees
LIHUE, Hawaii — Bette Midler cut down more than 230 trees around her property on the island of Kauai without a permit, and the state has recommended she be fined.
The staff of the Board of Land and Natural Resources recommended $6,500 in fines for having the trees felled and for building a graded road without permits required for the land zoned for conservation use.
The singer and actress will pay the fines and will follow a replanting program, her attorney Max W. J. Graham said.
The actress and movie star, who was born in Honolulu, didn't realize permits were needed to remove the trees on a vacant 58,000-square-foot parcel of land on Kauai's North Shore, Graham said.
Midler was once known as the Compost Queen and appeared on billboards in Los Angeles advocating green recycling containers are for yard trimmings.
