NEW YORK — Just when you thought Britney Spears couldn't sink any lower, the troubled pop star ruined a fashion shoot at OK! magazine and the celebrity-friendly glossy is dishing the whole story.
"It was like a cry for help, really, it wasn't normal," said the magazine's editor-in-chief, Sarah Ivens, who attended the July 19 shoot.
The project was supposed to be Spears' "comeback story and tell-all." Instead, according to the OK! issue that will be on newsstands Friday, Spears:
• Wiped her greasy hands on a designer gown during lunch.
• Let her puppy poop on a $6,700 Zac Posen gown.
• Took frequent bathroom breaks with the door open and even brought her assistant in with her.
• Insisted that her friends, not the hired professionals, do her hair and makeup while complaining that the wardrobe provided by the magazine's stylists wasn't "sexy," "short" or "tight" enough.
• Fled the shoot and interview before it was over, still wearing $14,526 worth of OK!'s borrowed clothing.
Representatives for Spears could not be reached for comment.
"We were all devastated," said Ivens, who added that the magazine is picking up the $21,267 tab for the lost and damaged goods.
OK! is notoriously celebrity-friendly, but this time decided to tell all about the shoot.
"We're really hoping that it will provide a wake-up call for her and for the people around her," Ivens said.

OK! publicist Brian Strong said the magazine wouldn't publish photos of Spears from the shoot due to legal reasons.
"It was a tough decision to run with the story," Ivens said.
But it's not the worst blow Spears, 25, may suffer this week, as the magazine also reports that the singer's ex-husband, Kevin Federline, is talking with his lawyers about seeking sole custody of their two sons.
An insider tells the magazine, "Kevin is worried about Sean and Jayden's safety. He had heard bits and pieces of what was going on from Brit's mother, Lynne, and from the bodyguards, but ... didn't want to believe she had completely lost it."
Earlier this month, Spears apologized for attacking a photographer's car with an umbrella in February, saying at the time she was preparing to try out for a movie part and got carried away.
The incident took place during the same period in which Spears shaved her head, got new tattoos and was seen partying hard in Los Angeles clubs.
Not long after, she checked into a monthlong stay in rehab.
Spears filed for divorce from aspiring rapper Federline in November, just two months after giving birth to the couple's second child, Jayden James. Their older son, Sean Preston, was born in September 2005.
