Just out of rehab, Lohan arrested again on DUI, drug charges

SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Actress Lindsay Lohan, who recently was released from an alcohol-rehabilitation facility, was arrested here early Tuesday on suspicion of drunken driving and possession of cocaine, police said.

Lohan, already facing a drunken-driving charge in Beverly Hills, was stopped near the police station after officers said the mother of Lohan's assistant reported a car chase, Lt. Alex Padilla said. Lohan, 21, allegedly was chasing the assistant's mother, and the woman feared for her safety, Padilla said.

The assistant had just quit hours before, Padilla said. Authorities found Lohan and the other driver in a "heated debate" in the parking lot of Santa Monica's Civic Auditorium about 1:30 a.m.

Lohan refused a sobriety test at the scene but was tested at the station, he said. The test found her blood alcohol between .12 and .13 percent, he said. California's legal limit is .08 percent.

Padilla said that while Lohan was at the station, officers discovered a small amount of cocaine in her pocket.

The actress was booked on two misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving on a suspended license and a felony charge of possession of cocaine, police said.

Lohan's lawyer, Blair Berk, said: "Addiction is a terrible and vicious disease. Since Lindsay's transition to outpatient care, she has been monitored on [an alcohol detection] bracelet and tested daily in order to support her sobriety. Throughout this period, I have received timely and accurate reports from the testing company. Unfortunately, late yesterday I was informed that Lindsay had relapsed. The bracelet has now been removed. She is safe, out of custody and presently receiving medical care."

Lohan was released at 6:20 a.m. after posting $25,000 bond, police said. The actress is to appear in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Aug. 24.

Lohan turned herself in last week to Beverly Hills police to face a DUI charge in connection with a Memorial Day weekend hit-and-run crash. The actress and two other adults were in her 2005 Mercedes SL-65 convertible when she lost control and crashed into a curb and shrubs May 26, police said.

Lohan got into a second car and was driven to a hospital in Century City for minor injuries, police said. The others in her car were not hurt.

This month, Lohan checked out of a rehabilitation center after more than six weeks of treatment. In January, she also checked into rehab for substance-abuse treatment.

Lohan's latest legal troubles may cost her movie roles. She was set to start shooting "Poor Things," a comedy featuring Shirley MacLaine, when she entered rehab in May. At the time, producers said they were "trying to rearrange the shooting schedule" to accommodate Lohan. On Tuesday, producers said their "sole focus is moving this film into production." They would not say whether Lohan would be part of the production.

A producer lambasted Lohan last summer for repeatedly arriving late to the set of "Georgia Rule," which came out in May.

"We are well aware that your ongoing all-night heavy partying is the real reason for your so-called 'exhaustion,' " producer James Robinson wrote in a letter to the actress.

Lohan is still set to appear in the film "Dare to Love Me," which is to begin shooting this summer, said Michael Sands, a consultant for production company Bowline Entertainment.

"The producers have compassion and kindness for her, so for now she's insured and still with the movie," he said. "She hasn't been convicted of any crimes."

Lohan's latest film, "I Know Who Killed Me," is set to open Friday.
