"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" book-release events

Bring wands, lightning bolts and maybe a few tears to celebrate the release of the seventh and final book in the "Harry Potter" series. Local libraries will kick off...

Bring wands, lightning bolts and maybe a few tears to celebrate the release of the seventh and final book in the "Harry Potter" series. Local libraries will kick off with events through next week, culminating with bashes Friday night. The book will be sold starting at 12:01 a.m. next Saturday.

Events are free unless noted otherwise.

Library celebrations

1-3 p.m. today, Newport Way Library, 14250 S.E. Newport Way, Bellevue. Play games and make potions. Ages 5-12. Registration required.

6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Marysville Library, 6120 Grove St., Marysville. "Unfogging the Future: Celebrating 10 Years of Harry Potter" will review the earlier books, including a look at popular theories and clues about what will happen next. At 10 p.m. Friday, enjoy food, prizes, costume contest, trivia and games. Preorder a book from BookWorks to pick up a copy at 12:01 a.m.

5 p.m. Thursday, Redmond Regional Library, 15990 N.E. 85th, Redmond. A rock band, The Parselmouths, will play before the library shows "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" at 6 p.m.

6 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 p.m. Friday, Lynnwood Library, 19200 44th Ave. W., Lynnwood. Movies and treats Thursday, then a Friday-night countdown with costume and trivia contests.

Noon-9 p.m. Friday, Oak Harbor Library, 1000 S.E. Regatta Drive, Oak Harbor. Movie marathon and trivia contest.

2 p.m. Friday, Federal Way Regional Library, 34200 First Way S., Federal Way. Harry Potter celebration; costumes welcome. Age 7 and up. Register online.

Book-release parties

While fans wait for the stroke of midnight, they can enjoy parties at local community events and bookstores earlier in the evening. Unless otherwise noted, these events are on Friday. Costumes welcome.

Starting at 8 p.m. Friday, the Pacific Place store (600 Pine St., Seattle) will host Scene-It trivia, Pacific Science Center workshops and acoustic sets from The Band That Shall Not Be Named (8-9 p.m. and 10-11 p.m.).
