Seattle artist Elizabeth Sandvig will join a distinguished group of winners of the Twining Humber Award for lifetime achievement in the arts. Sandvig shows at Francine Seders Gallery, and her fanciful paintings are the subject of a recent book by Regina Hackett. Artist Trust presents the $10,000 award annually to a Washington state female artist over 60 whose career has been primarily devoted to her art. Sandvig will receive the award Sept. 7 at a ceremony at the Frye Art Museum.
The award was funded by the late painter Yvonne Twining Humber. An exhibit of Twining Humber's work will open simultaneously at the Frye, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of her birth. Previous winners of the prize are Mary Randlett, Patti Warashina, Ramona Solberg, Doris Chase, Fay Jones and Mary Henry.
