After all the smooches Bob Barker has scored over 35 years — some tender, some downright forceful — it's a small miracle the 83-year-old host's cheeks haven't gone concave since he solicited his first "Price Is Right" bid on Sept. 4, 1972.

But watch video clips from Barker's first week on "Price" and it's quickly clear that much has changed. The first item up for bid in Barker's inaugural episode was a fur coat — something the host, an animal-rights activist, would never allow today. And such quaint prizes as electric typewriters ($160) have ceded the stage to dual sets of iPods ($498).

"Price is Right Million Dollar Spectacular,"

8 tonight on CBS (KIRO)

"Bob Barker: A Celebration of 50 Years on Television," 8 p.m. Thursday on CBS (KIRO)

Barker, too, is preparing to cede the stage: CBS airs his final prime-time "Price" special tonight, along with a career retrospective Thursday. (He tapes his final daytime episode in early June.) What better way to measure the progress of "Price" over Barker's 35 years than by looking at the progression of the prices themselves?
