KING-5 has garnered two 2007 Walter Cronkite Awards for "Excellence in Television Political Journalism" by the USC Annenberg School of Communication.
The biennial awards evaluated coverage of the 2006 election by networks and local stations. USC named KING-5, along with Baltimore's WBAL, as local broadcast-station winner. The Seattle station, the judges noted, not only has a full-time political unit but also offered more than 100 minutes of local political coverage each week.
The university also lauded KING-5's reporter Robert Mak and producer Mike Cate for individual achievement at a local station.
