What's happening in black theater

To check out what is going on in Seattle's black-theater scene, here is a rundown of some noteworthy current and future productions, and the organizations presenting them.

• "Wine in the Wilderness," by Alice Childress, is the first production of ACT Theatre's Hansberry Project. Its run continues through next Sunday at ACT Theatre, 700 Union St., Seattle; $10-$54 (206-292-7676 or www.acttheatre.org).

• "The Diva Daughters Dupree," by Kim Euell, plays Oct. 3-Nov. 11 at Langston Hughes Cultural Arts Center, 104 17th Ave. S., Seattle (206-684-4757).

• "Native Son," by Seattle playwright Cheryl West and based on the novel by Richard Wright, has its world premiere Oct. 14-Nov. 18, Intiman Theatre, 201 Mercer St., Seattle Center (206-269-1900 or www.intiman.org).

"Black Nativity: A Gospel Song Play," by Langston Hughes, has its annual stand Nov. 29-Dec. 27, at the Intiman, 201 Mercer St., Seattle Center (206-269-1900 or www.intiman.org).

"Bud, Not Buddy," adapted by Reginald Andre Jackson from a novel by Christopher Paul Curtis; world premiere Dec. 1-23 by Book-It Repertory Theatre, 305 Harrison St., Seattle Center (206-216-0833 or www.book-it.org).

"Blue Door," by Tanya Barfield, will have its Seattle debut Feb. 1-March 4, 2007 at Seattle Repertory Theatre, 155 Mercer St., Seattle Center (206-443-2222 or www.seattlerep.org).

"Gem of the Ocean," by August Wilson, has its local premiere April 5-May 6 at Seattle Rep, 155 Mercer St., Seattle Center (206-443-2222 or www.seattlerep.org).

Central District Forum for Arts & Ideas hosts occasional black theater performances and forums. Coming up Feb. 9-10, 2007: Carl Hancock Rux's one-man show, "No Black Male Show" at Broadway Performance Hall. (206-323-4032 or www.cdforum.org).
