A & E briefs: Goertzen surgery "better than expected"
KOMO news anchor Kathi Goertzen is recovering after surgery Tuesday to remove a slow-growing noncancerous brain tumor. In a memo to KOMO staff, Goertzen's husband reported that the 5 ½-hour operation went "better than expected"; doctors do not expect any problems during her recovery. Goertzen remains in intensive care, where she has been reading e-mails she received from viewers. Goertzen, 47, first had surgery on the tumor in 1998 after she suffered a hearing loss. KOMO said it will post regular updates on Goertzen's condition on the station's Web site, at www.komotv.com and viewers can send messages to kathiwishes@komotv.com. Tyra proves they're real NEW YORK — Tyra Banks underwent a televised sonogram on her new talk show to prove that her breasts aren't fake. "I'm tired of this rumor. It's something that's followed me forever," she said Tuesday on "The Tyra Banks Show."
Moss investigated for drug allegations LONDON — Allegations that Kate Moss recently used cocaine are being investigated, Metropolitan Police said yesterday as Burberry and Chanel announced they were dropping the supermodel. Confirmation of the investigation came a day after Hennes & Mauritz, Europe's largest fashion retailer, canceled plans to use the 31-year-old model in an upcoming ad campaign. The decision to drop the H&M campaign came after Moss acknowledged last week that British tabloid reports of her recent cocaine use were true. Chesney to fans: "I'll be OK" NEW YORK — Less than a week after Renée Zellweger filed for an annulment from Kenny Chesney, the country music star told fans, "I'll be OK." "I'm all right. I'm good. There have been better times, but I'll be OK," Chesney told Country Weekly magazine for its Oct. 24 issue, on newsstands Oct. 10. The interview was conducted Monday at the singer's home outside Nashville, Tenn. "I hit everything so hard this year," Chesney said. "I had the biggest tour I've ever done, I had a record to finish that was real important to me, and, of course, I had something new in my personal life and I was trying to do that too. It really ended up being too much." ALSO: Singer J.D. Fortune beat out 14 other contestants Tuesday to win CBS' televised "Rock Star: INXS" search. The 32-year-old singer was invited by the Australian group to join their band. Includes information from The Seattle Times staff, Associated Press and Zap2it.
