Tuesday, May 24, 2005 - Page updated at 01:09 p.m. Summer concerts offer something for everyone Seattle Times music critic If you came of age in the '80s, your youth is coming back to you this summer. Stars from that era, including Whitesnake, Judas Priest, Billy Idol, Tears for Fears, Mötley Crüe, Violent Femmes, Iron Maiden and Dead Can Dance, are among the acts coming our way from now through September. Some current big names are coming, too, like Green Day, Eminem, 50 Cent, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Avril Lavigne, Dave Matthews and Hilary Duff. And there are some veteran superstars on tap, including James Taylor, Brian Wilson, Tom Petty, Neil Diamond, B.B. King, Tom Jones and ZZ Top. Those all-day festivals only the young and strong can endure, like Ozzfest, Vans Warped Tour, Sasquatch, EndFest, Big Freakin' Deal and the KUBE Summer Jam, offer big bangs for your buck. While last summer was disastrous for the concert industry as a whole, with ticket revenue down an estimated 40 percent, according to Rolling Stone, it wasn't nearly so bad here in the Northwest, according to local promoters. That's why there are even more concerts scheduled this summer than last. The current list of summer concerts will get even longer in the next few weeks, as more events are announced. But for now, start planning some summertime fun using our current list of coming pop-music events. Current list of summer concerts
