KING-FM (98.1) has hired a new announcer: Sean MacLean, formerly of Boston station WGBH. KING-FM fans may remember MacLean from his stint as guest host last September. He is a composer whose music was recently performed by London's BBC Symphony Orchestra. MacLean's résumé also includes Japanese studies at Amherst College, a master's in composition from the Yale School of Music, a five-year composing sojourn in Paris and a recording/projection company called Standing Wave. MacLean also is a pianist and guitarist, and an award-winning photographer.

KING-FM also will resume the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts, a 20-opera radio season now in its 74th year, at 10:30 Dec. 11 with Verdi's "I Vespri Siciliani." New host Margaret Juntwait replaces Peter Allen, who has retired after 29 years as the series' announcer.

Seattle Symphony improves ticketing

Seattle Symphony is upgrading its online ticketing system at www.seattlesymphony.org beginning Monday, enabling patrons to confirm exact seats before purchasing, 24 hours a day. Currently, online ticket-buyers can choose sections in which they want to sit, but they aren't told immediately which seats they've been assigned.

The system will also provide "one-stop shopping" for symphonygoers who wish to purchase tickets, buy gift certificates and/or make donations all in one transaction.

Online service charges will be waived for one week beginning 10 a.m. Monday, to encourage patrons to try the new system. Call the Seattle Symphony ticket office at 206-215-4747 or log onto www.seattlesymphony.org for further details.
