Former Q13 anchor to join KABC-TV

Former Q13 anchor Leslie Miller is headed to Los Angeles for a job at the top-rated KABC-TV.

Miller will join the ABC affiliate's news operation as a reporter and fill-in anchor on Nov. 1.

"Los Angeles is a career destination, and it's been part of my career plan for a long time," Miller said yesterday. "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work at the No. 1 station in the No. 2 news market in the country."

The Disney-owned station is known for breaking news with a lot of live reporting, according to a KABC spokesman. Miller, who did some reporting at Q13 but is known to Seattle viewers mostly as an anchor, said she is looking forward to the new challenge.

"It's exciting to be hired by a station that is extremely competitive and serious about covering the news," she said.

Miller left Q13 at the end of May when her contract expired. She was part of the original on-air team that launched the station's news operation in 1998.

"It's a wonderful opportunity, and certainly somewhere she always wanted to head," said Bill Kaczaraba, Q13's news director. "I think it's exactly where somebody of her caliber should be, so this is really great news. We wish her the best."

Miller's KABC hire puts to rest rumors among industry insiders that she might move to Seattle's KIRO-TV.

Instead, after taking the summer off to spend time with friends and family and "enjoy the weather," Miller is in the process of moving to Los Angeles. But Seattle likely hasn't seen the last of her yet.

"I will definitely miss Seattle and the viewers who have been so loyal to me over the years, but I do plan to visit regularly," she said. "Some of my closest friends are there."
