The White River Amphitheatre took a lot of flak in its premiere season last year for problems related to traffic and parking. This year, the venue has added a number of improvements designed to improve traffic flow into and out of the parking areas.

Not much can be done to ease freeway congestion, especially at the intersection of state Highways 18 and 164. Weekdays are especially bad, as concert traffic meets the last of the commute. It's not unusual for the drive from Seattle to the site to take more than two hours because of the congestion.

White River has expanded its parking capacity and paved more parking lots. Signage has been improved, and staffing has been increased and better trained. The free shuttle service from the Auburn SuperMall will now access and exit through a separate venue entrance, with quicker exits promised at the end of the concerts. Close-in premiere parking is available and can be purchased in advance at Ticketmaster outlets.

Plan ahead. Check the Web site, www.whiteriverconcerts.com, for complete information, alternate routes and maps.
