Alexander leaves Q13 for NBC

Peter Alexander, reporter and sometime anchor for KCPQ-TV, will leave Seattle next month to join NBC News as a national correspondent, the network announced yesterday.

Alexander, 27, is expected to contribute to "Today," "NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw," and MSNBC. He will tentatively be based in New York, a network spokeswoman said.

For Alexander, reaching the network is a longtime goal realized.

"I'm most excited to be working with the best people in the business," he said yesterday. "I'm going to learn a lot and I'm going to learn it fast. ... This is what I've always wanted to do."

Alexander came to Q13 from Spokane's KHQ-TV in 2001. He worked as a reporter and weekend anchor for "Q13 Fox News at 10" and briefly co-anchored Q13's three-hour morning show. His last day there was Wednesday. KCPQ has not announced a replacement.

"I loved working and living in Seattle," he said. "Down the road, if the opportunity to come back to Seattle existed, it'd be tough to pass up."
