The president and chief executive officer of Seattle's Alliance for Education surprised the organization's board and staff Tuesday by announcing his resignation.
Patrick D'Amelio has decided to return to his former job as president and chief executive officer of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Puget Sound. D'Amelio said Tuesday that it was hard to leave the Alliance but said he sought more work/life balance and a job where he had more contact with the young people he wants to assist.
Over D'Amelio's three years at the Alliance, the group cut costs and refocused its mission of raising money and supporting programs to raise achievement in Seattle schools. Most recently, it commissioned a study about policies that affect teacher quality.
