A 12-year-old Bellevue middle-school student took the top prize in a national all-girls chess championship over the weekend.

Odle Middle School's Megan Lee competed in the 18-years-and-younger division of the U.S. Chess Federation's All-Girls Nationals.

She won a four-year scholarship to the University of Texas at Dallas, valued at $80,000.

Lee is a graduate of Stevenson Elementary, a Bellevue school that's won numerous national championships, including the national K-5 chess championship in early April.

The annual All-Girls event is sponsored by the Kasparov Chess Foundation, whose chairman is Garry Kasparov, the former world chess champion.
