A citizens report card released today gives the state's public-school system a C average.
A citizens report card released today gives the state's public-school system a C average.
The highest grade — C-plus — came in the area of investing in early learning and setting higher expectations for students, and the lowest — D-plus — was for school funding.
That's an improvement from two years ago, when the League of Education Voters gave the school system a D-plus average.
The grades are for state policies and programs, not school performance per se.
The state's per-pupil spending continues to decline and now is 87 percent of the national average.
