Holland, Albro on track to win seats on Port commission
King County voters agreed with The Seattle Times' endorsements of Rob Holland and Tom Albro for Port of Seattle commissioner.
THE Seattle Times' choices in the Port of Seattle races, Rob Holland and Tom Albro, are comfortably ahead in the vote count, and slide into the general election with momentum.
In this race, voters agreed with our advice — or maybe they were taking the advice of The Stranger, which made the same choices we did. That doesn't happen too often.
Then again, the Port is rarely a battleground of ideologies or a bulletin board for enthusiasms and fads. It is not a general government, with programs all over the lot. It is focused on maritime business and commercial aviation.
What is wanted is a commission with five members who will do the work to keep those industries, so that business and labor can make money without creating unnecessary nuisances.
Holland is backed by labor and Albro by business. They will disagree on some things, and that is all right. Each, we thought, has a more-centered view of the Port's mission than his opponent.
We hope they win, and we hope they get along.
