A planned move to another Puget Sound city, as well as "a number of major life changes," prompted John Resha to step down from the Redmond City Council this week, just a few months before the end of his first term.

"While my house is only for sale now and I've not moved from the community, I am just not able to give the 200 percent that the job takes," he said.

Resha, whose four-year term ends in December, said he timed his announcement so that it would not leave a gap in leadership.

"It made more sense for me to step aside as the election is going through its process," he said.

The Redmond City Council has 90 days from the date of Resha's resignation to appoint a replacement, City Clerk Malisa Files said.

That would put the decision near the November general election, so the council could decide to appoint the winner to serve out the remainder of Resha's term, she said.

Brian Conlin and Dayle "Hank" Margeson are running for Position 3, Resha's seat on the council.

The city expects to receive Resha's formal letter of resignation Thursday, Files said.

The council may discuss the matter at its Tuesday study session or at the Sept. 4 regular meeting, she said.
