Traffic was stopped and several driveways were cut off when a landslide closed a section of West Mercer Way in the 7900 block this morning, near the south end of Mercer Island. A City of Mercer Island spokesperson said damage was confined to a driveway that served several homes in the area. Neighbors said the damage took place when a contractor was working on a project near the roadway and a storm drain was moved. Heavy rains then caused the storm drain to overflow, cutting off access to a driveway that serves about three houses. City crews and a contractor were on the site today to make repairs and traffic was stopped as a precaution, said the spokesperson. Copyright © 2006 The Seattle Times Company Most read articles
