Oregon State sophomore running back Jacquizz Rodgers ran for 165 yards and two touchdowns. Rodgers averaged 6.9 yards on 24 carries. He also caught five passes for 39 yards, including a 22-yard gain on the Beavers' first offensive play.

Early in the fourth quarter, Rodgers ran 39 yards for a touchdown that gave Oregon State a 35-10 lead.

Turning point

The Oregon State defense stopped the Cougars twice in the third quarter. The Cougars trailed 21-10, and a touchdown on either drive could have made it interesting. But Oregon State forced Washington State to punt each time. After the second stop, the Beavers drove for a touchdown, their first of three consecutive TD drives of at least 63 yards.

Sophomore receiver Jared Karstetter caught six passes for 72 yards, with a long gain of 27 yards.

On target

Oregon State quarterback Sean Canfield connected on 22 of 29 passes for 231 yards, with two touchdowns. Canfield connected with Damola Adeniji on an 11-yard touchdown pass to cap the Beavers' first drive. In the second quarter, Canfield hit tight end Joe Halahuni on a 10-yard scoring pass.

Senior Xavier Hicks, playing his final home game for the Cougars, intercepted a pass by Canfield in the second quarter. It was the first time the Cougars stopped Oregon State, after allowing three touchdowns on the Beavers' first three possessions. Hicks intercepted the pass at WSU's 9-yard line and returned it 16 yards. Hicks also made two solo tackles and assisted on another.

WSU highlight

The Cougars' best drive came late in the first half, covering 80 yards in eight plays. The Cougars were helped by four Oregon State penalties on the drive. The touchdown came on a 1-yard run by Dwight Tardy on fourth and goal, with 10 seconds to go in the half.

By the numbers

5 of 5 Oregon State scored touchdowns all five times it was inside the Cougars' 20-yard line.

31 First downs for Oregon State. The Cougars had 13.

133 Passing yards for WSU quarterback Kevin Lopina. Lopina completed 15 of 32 passes and did not thrown an interception.
