WSU men's basketball keeps one assistant, releases a signee
Ben Johnson will stay on with the Cougars, while recruit David Chadwick was released from his letter.
Seattle Times staff reporter
Washington State sustained a link to the Tony Bennett basketball regime Thursday by adding to Ken Bone's new staff Ben Johnson, a longtime friend and associate of Bennett.
"I've heard nothing but really, really good things about not only what kind of person he is with everybody, but also that he's an outstanding defensive coach," said Bone Thursday night. "I was not aware of that. I'm glad to just kind of keep the continuity from the past staff."
Bone says the Cougars hope to use Johnson's broad experience as a coach and recruiter in Australia. He said he thinks Australian signee Brock Motum will follow through on his letter of intent.
Johnson will be the only WSU assistant retained.
Meanwhile, the Cougars released North Carolina signee David Chadwick from his letter, saying it was an old relationship the family had with Bennett that weighed heavily in Chadwick's signing. Bone said Chadwick's father asked him to continue recruiting his son, but he now has the freedom to sign elsewhere.
