Mike Harthun, a freshman guard from Medford, Ore., has been suspended from the Washington State basketball team for three games, apparently in connection with an incident Sunday night in which he was investigated by WSU police for alleged marijuana possession.
A WSU campus spokesman said Wednesday that Harthun was contacted by police at a school dormitory on suspicion of possessing less than 40 grams of marijuana. Harthun wasn't cited, but the case was forwarded to the Whitman County prosecutor for possible charges.
WSU coach Tony Bennett said Harthun was suspended for violation of team rules but did not elaborate. Harthun sat out the Cougars' victory over Canisius on Tuesday night, and the suspension will carry through games in the Legends Classic Friday and Saturday nights in Newark, N.J.
