Star of the game: Arizona State quarterback Rudy Carpenter completed 17 of 25 passes for 213 yards and three touchdowns.

Play of the game: Carpenter threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Williams, the longest play of the day, to give the Sun Devils a 24-0 late in the third quarter. Carpenter threw two touchdown passes to Williams in the period.

WSU highlight: The Cougars held Arizona State scoreless in the first quarter and were down only 3-0 before ASU scored its first TD with 3:12 left in the half.

WSU lowlight: The Cougars had 130 total yards and just seven yards rushing.

He said it: "Everybody was covered up so I tried to continue the play and give us a shot. Instead, I shot myself in the foot." — WSU QB J.T. Levenseller, on his fumble that was returned for a touchdown.

Injuries: WSU QB Kevin Lopina suffered a concussion in the second quarter and didn't return. His status for the Apple Cup is uncertain; WSU RB Chantz Staden injured his knee in the second quarter and didn't return.

Next week: vs. Washington, noon Saturday.
