At stake: Despite upsetting USC two weeks ago, the Beavers come in at 2-3 (1-1 in Pac-10) after a 31-28 loss to No. 14 Utah last week. OSU believes they're better than their record and can still win the Pac-10, so nothing short of a blowout would be considered successful. The Cougars were competitive into the second half versus UCLA — the first time they've done so against a Division I-A opponent. Doing the same against a more proven opponent would seem to indicate real progress in what is already a lost season.

What to expect: Last season the Beavers delivered the final blow of the Bill Doba era by rushing for 218 yards and six touchdowns while forcing WSU into seven interceptions in a 52-17 win. Expect about the same. WSU has the Pac-10's worst rushing defense, and OSU has the conference's leading rusher (Jacquizz Rodgers) and passer (Lyle Moevao). With RB Dwight Tardy questionable and RB Chris Ivory out, Marshall Lobbestael will be leaned upon more this week. But OSU's pass rush will create nightmares for Lobbestael and the struggling WSU offensive line, and turnovers will ensue.

Notes: Excluding Portland State, WSU has just four drives over 60 yards this season — one of which ended in a fumble. ... OSU has committed only six turnovers this season, fewest in the Pac-10. WSU has committed 19, most in the Pac-10. ... A victory would give Mike Riley his 50th at Oregon State. ... The Beavers have won five in a row at Reser Stadium. ... WSU has been outscored 157-20 in Pac-10 games. ... WSU punter Reid Forrest is tied for second in the Pac-10 with nine punts downed inside the 20-yard line. ... This will be Paul Wulff's 100th game as a college coach. ... WSU leads the series 47-42-3.

Injuries: WSU — RB Chris Ivory (hamstring), Steven Ayers (neck and concussion) are out. RB Dwight Tardy (knee) is questionable.

Prediction: WSU is just the punching bag OSU needs to get another midseason surge going. Oregon State 56, Washington State 14.
