Jailed Washington State safety Xavier Hicks has lost his chance for early release because he violated work-release rules this week.

A disciplinary committee of Whitman County Jail employees decided that Hicks will have to serve all 45 days of his sentence and also is banned from work release. He will be allowed to attend WSU classes next week.

According to Capt. Bob Ingalls of the Whitman County Jail, Hicks said he was going to work Wednesday but actually wasn't scheduled at his grocery-store job and went to WSU and lifted weights. Ingalls went by the store to check on Hicks and found he wasn't there.

"He knows he did wrong," Ingalls said. "He knows he messed up. I think he realizes he is on extremely thin ice."

Hicks pleaded guilty to two gross misdemeanors for credit-card theft and intent to commit assault last month. The assault case involves putting rubbing alcohol into the contact lens case of former teammate-roommate Grady Maxwell after a dispute about paying the cable-TV bill. Maxwell never put the lenses in his eyes.
