Washington State coach Bill Doba described his team as "a little behind" after Tuesday's practice.

The Cougars had been given Monday off because that was the first day of classes. On Sunday, practice had been cut short after stretching because the team had scrimmaged Saturday night.

Running back Chris Ivory (ribs) and defensive tackle Ropati Pitoitua (chest) participated in full-contact drills after missing some work last week.

Running back Ian Bell, who had been sidelined with an ankle injury when camp opened and had been told to join the team Tuesday when the roster could expand, wasn't at practice. Doba said Bell was home in California attending to family matters and hadn't been returning calls.

Doba said he expected starting wide receiver Brandon Gibson (knee) and linebacker Andy Mattingly (ankle) to be able to practice either late this week or early next week.
