"American Idol" Top 3 results: It will be Kris vs. Adam in finale
Posted by Bob Payne
The storylines are building into an epic showdown for the "American Idol" Season 8 crown next week.
On Wednesday night's Top 3 results show, Milwaukee church music teacher Danny Gokey's dreams of a coronation came to an end when the results of Tuesday night's voting were announced.
We're left with California-bred, nail-polish wearing Adam Lambert and his mind-blowing vocal gymnastics vs. Arkansas-born worship leader Kris Allen and his soulful crooning and inventive arrangements.
Already the bloggers and their commenters are speculating about how the various voting blocs might shake out in next Tuesday night's voting:
Who will the tweenies and teenies go for: Cutie-pie Kris or emo poster-boy Adam?
What about the cougars who helped propel David Cook to the title last season?
Will Danny Gokey's formidable fan base slide over into Kris' camp because of the religious ties?
Or will the winner be the one who performs the best next Tuesday night, thereby snagging the casual fans?
For now all we can do is speculate, and get nervous for the fate of our favorite, be it Kris or Adam.
This is how the evening unfolded:
9:00 p.m. - "This ... is 'American Idol'."
9:00 p.m. - The show starts with Ben Stiller doing some kind of skit about "American Idol" in the Smithsonian, which turns out to be total product placement for an upcoming movie. LAME!
9:01 p.m. - Host Ryan Seacrest says there were more than 88 million votes last night. Wow! He then adds that there were only 1 million votes separating the TOP TWO vote-getters.
9:03 p.m. - Ford commercial. Snore.
9:04 p.m. - Alicia Keyes is brought on stage to talk about "Idol Gives Back." Then a young man from Rwanda sings. Cute stuff, for a good cause.
9:14 p.m. - Ryan is back. New dates have been added for Idol tour, he says. Hmm. OK, Ryan calls up Danny Gokey to the stage. Time to show the highlights from Danny's homecoming to Milwaukee last Friday. Wow, lots of hometown fans turned out for Danny. Nice footage!
9:19 p.m. - But time for Ryan to get serious: But no, he tells Danny to sit down and wait.
9:20 p.m. - Kris Allen is called up. Time to show the highlights of his homecoming. A crowd of 20,000 people showed up in his Arkansas hometown of Conway. Love hearing his rendition of "Falling Slowly" again. Nice stuff.
9:25 p.m. - Ryan faces Kris again but, alas, just asks him to relax with Danny on the couch. No results yet!
9:29 p.m. - Yeehaw! Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks comes on stage to sing her new song "Battlefield." The song's writer/producer, Ryan Tedder, is on piano. Jordin looks -- and sounds -- great! Good luck to her on her new album.
9:36 p.m. - I can't get Jordin's song out of my head!
9:37 p.m. - Adam Lambert is called up to the stage to a round of intense cheering. Time for clips from Adam's visit home to San Diego.
9:42 p.m. - Ryan calls up Adam for the results. But of course he is sent to the couch with Kris and Danny. Still no results, folks!
9:47 p.m. - Katy Perry is on to sing her new song, "Waking up in Vegas." Yup, it be at least 55 minutes after the hour before we find out if anyone's in or out. I like this song by Katy! Nice outfit! Except that she had "Adam Lambert" on her cape. What the heck? That's not real cool.
9:55 p.m. - It's time, folks. The first person in the finale is: Kris Allen!
9:57 p.m. - Who is joining Kris in the finale? Ryan says .... it's Adam Lambert!
6:58 p.m. - Time to watch the clips of Danny Gokey's journey. Nice Job, Danny.
So it's Adam and Kris next week. What do you think of this result?
And just for fun, time to see where our Idol blog readers are coming from today:
