4th-ranked Missouri beats No. 8 Kansas | College basketball
Marcus Denmon scored 29 points to lead No. 4 Missouri to a 74-71 victory over eighth-ranked Kansas. The Tigers, who scored the last 11 points of the game, beat Kansas for the second time in the last 12 meetings of the border rivals.
COLUMBIA, Mo. — After several off-target games, Missouri's Marcus Denmon seemingly couldn't miss.
The senior guard made three three-pointers in the final 2:05, the last for the go-ahead points, and No. 4 Missouri scored the game's final 11 points to rally past No. 8 Kansas 74-71 Saturday.
Denmon scored 29 points, two off his career best. He was 5 of 31 on three-point attempts in the previous five games, but made 6 of 9 against the Jayhawks.
"Marcus worked his tail off all week," Missouri coach Frank Haith said.
The Tigers (21-2, 8-2 Big 12 Conference) beat Kansas (18-5, 8-2) for the second time in the last 12 meetings of the bitter border rivals.
The rematch is Feb. 25 in Lawrence, Kan., and there is speculation it could be the final game between the schools for a while because of bad feelings from Missouri's decision to leave for the Southeastern Conference.
Thomas Robinson had 25 points and 13 rebounds for Kansas, which failed to score in the last 3:20 after Tyshawn Taylor dunked for a 71-63 lead.
"We let up on the gas and they hit shots. Big shots," said Robinson, his voice choked with emotion. "We blew that game. I still give them credit for making shots."
