Kansas clubs Kansas State 82-65, clinches Big 12 title | College basketball
Sherron Collins had 17 points in his final game at Allen Fieldhouse and No. 2 Kansas beat No. 5 Kansas State 82-65 Wednesday night to clinch its sixth straight Big 12 regular-season title outright.
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Sherron Collins had 17 points in his final game at Allen Fieldhouse and No. 2 Kansas beat No. 5 Kansas State 82-65 Wednesday night to clinch its sixth straight Big 12 regular-season title outright.
Xavier Henry scored 15 of his 19 points in a tight first half and Kansas (28-2, 14-1) wore down Kansas State in a foul-filled game to extend the nation's longest home winning streak to 59 games. The Jayhawks are 32-2 against Kansas State in the Big 12 era and will have the No. 1 seed in next week's Big 12 tournament.
Kansas State (24-5, 11-4) relied on the guard combination of Jacob Pullen and Denis Clemente to keep it close while its front line struggled with foul trouble. Clemente had 21 points and Pullen scored 15 of his 20 in the first half, while the five biggest Wildcats combined for 19 points.

No. 3 Kentucky 80, at Georgia 68
John Wall had 24 points and Kentucky clinched at least a share of the Southeastern Conference regular-season championship by beating Georgia.
Patrick Patterson added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats, who scored the first 12 points of the second half and cruised.
Wall hit three three-pointers to help the Wildcats shake their recent shooting slump. The star freshman added six assists and three steals as Kentucky bounced back from a loss at Tennessee.
Kentucky (28-2, 13-2 SEC) moved one game ahead of Vanderbilt in the race for the league's best record. The Wildcats, who swept Vanderbilt, already own the tiebreaker and the top seed in the SEC tournament.
Kentucky, which won a share of its 44th SEC title, snapped a streak of four straight home wins for Georgia (13-15, 5-10).
At No. 22 Maryland 79, No. 4 Duke 72
Greivis Vasquez scored 20 points, including a clutch basket with 37 seconds left, and Maryland beat Duke to move into a tie with the Blue Devils atop the Atlantic Coast Conference standings.

It was the final home game for Vasquez, who was honored with seniors Landon Milbourne and Eric Hayes before the game.
Afterward, all three were mobbed with their teammates as fans rushed the court to celebrate Maryland's first win over Duke in seven tries.
Jordan Williams had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Terrapins (22-7, 12-3), who have won six straight since losing by 21 at Duke on Feb. 13.
Nolan Smith scored 20 for Duke (25-5, 12-3) and Jon Scheyer had 19. The defeat ended the Blue Devils' eight-game winning streak.
At No. 7 Purdue 74, Indiana 55
E'Twaun Moore scored 21 points and Chris Kramer added a season-high 18 in his final home game to help Purdue beat Indiana.
JaJuan Johnson added 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for the Boilermakers (25-4, 13-4 Big Ten).
If Purdue wins at Penn State on Saturday, the Boilermakers will earn a share of the Big Ten championship. It would be Purdue's first conference title since 1996.
Verdell Jones III scored 15 points for Indiana (9-20, 3-14), which lost its 11th straight game.
At No. 8 New Mexico 73, TCU 66
Darington Hobson had 20 points and 14 rebounds while Roman Martinez added 19 points in his final game at The Pit, leading New Mexico over Texas Christian to secure the Lobos' first outright conference title in 16 years.
Dairese Gary added 14 points and shot 4 of 6 from the free-throw line in the final 30 seconds as the Lobos (28-3, 14-2 Mountain West) won their 14th straight game and clinched their first outright season title since winning the Western Athletic Conference in 1994.
New Mexico also tied a school record for most wins — a 28-5 mark set in 1995-96.
Ronnie Moss led the Horned Frogs (13-17, 5-10) with 14 points, but TCU lost its fifth in a row.

At No. 3 Nebraska 72, Kansas 52
Kelsey Griffin scored 18 points for the Cornhuskers.
Nebraska (28-0, 15-0 Big 12), which clinched the Big 12 regular-season championship a week ago, would become the second team in the conference's 13-year history to go unbeaten in league play if it wins Saturday at Kansas State. Oklahoma did it first in 2005-06.
The Cornhuskers led by 20 points in the first half and by 31 with nine minutes left. They posted their 11th win by 20 points or more and handed the Jayhawks (15-13, 5-10) their most lopsided loss of the season.

• Baylor's super freshman Brittney Griner was ejected from a game against Texas Tech after she punched an opposing player in the face.
