College Basketball: Illinois-Chicago upsets Oregon State 63-61
Six-footer Robo Kreps scored over 6-foot-11 center Roeland Schaftenaar with 5.6 seconds to play Wednesday night, rallying Illinois-Chicago to a 63-61 upset over Oregon State.
CHICAGO — It was a frustrating homecoming for Craig Robinson and another humbling defeat for his Oregon State Beavers.
Six-footer Robo Kreps scored over 6-foot-11 center Roeland Schaftenaar with 5.6 seconds to play Wednesday night, rallying Illinois-Chicago to a 63-61 upset over Oregon State.
"It was a complete collapse," said Oregon State coach Robinson, a Chicago native.
In falling to a Horizon League team that had lost its previous six games, the Beavers blew a late seven-point lead largely because they threw away four inbounds passes in the final 1:24.
Oregon State (4-5) had opened the season with a 24-point loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and later dropped a home game to Sacramento State.
Kreps finished with 19 points for Illinois-Chicago (2-6), which had beaten only Division II Illinois-Springfield.
