SAN DIEGO — De'Jon Jackson and Brandon Johnson scored 18 points apiece to lead San Diego to a 77-64 victory over Stanford in the season opener for both teams Friday night.

San Diego held the Cardinal to two field goals in the final seven minutes, winning its season opener for the second time in seven seasons.

Jackson helped seal the victory with two consecutive baskets to give the Toreros a 69-58 lead with 2:18 remaining. Johnson scored 14 of his points in the second half, when San Diego shot 60 percent from the field.

Landry Fields scored a career-high 25 points for Stanford, which shot 37.5 percent from the field. Jeremy Green added 13 points.

San Diego won despite the Cardinal's advantage at the free-throw line.

Stanford had 24 attempts to 12 for the Toreros heading into the final two minutes. Stanford finished 17 of 26 from the free-throw line while San Diego was 14 for 20.

Winston-Salem St. 43

Teondre Williams scored a career-high 19 points and the Ducks overwhelmed the Rams in the BTI Tip-Off Tournament in the opener for both teams.

Williams, a 6-foot-4 sophomore guard, scored 17 of his points in the first half on 7-of-10 shooting.

At Arizona State 87,

Jamelle McMillan, a graduate of O'Dea High School in Seattle, and freshman Demetrius Walker had 12 points apiece as the balanced Sun Devils romped. Rihards Kuksiks and Derek Glasser added 10 points each for Arizona State.

Texas A&M-Corp. Christi 67, Oregon St. 43

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Kevin Palmer scored 23 points to lead the Islanders past the Beavers in Lubbock, Texas.

Palmer made 9 of 15 shots from the field.

Seth Tarver led the Beavers with 12 points.

Oregon State shot 32 percent from the field.

Hofstra 65

Xavier Henry made five three-pointers and scored 27 points to set a school freshman record, and the Jayhawks routed overmatched Hofstra.

Sherron Collins added 23 points and Cole Aldrich had 11 points and eight rebounds, lifting the Jayhawks to their 42nd consecutive victory at Allen Fieldhouse.

Durrell Summers scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half, and Kalin Lucas finished with 21 to lead the Spartans.

Kentucky freshman Eric Bledsoe scored 24 points and the Wildcats opened the coach John Calipari era with a victory. Patrick Patterson added 20 points and 12 rebounds for Kentucky.

Corey Stokes scored 20 points as the Wildcats cruised to victory.

At No. 7 Purdue 89,

Robbie Hummel scored 17 points as the Boilermakers rolled in their opener.

At No. 9 Duke 96,

UNC Greensboro 62

Kyle Singler scored 20 points in the first half and the Blue Devils won easily, even without suspended guard Nolan Smith.

At No. 10 Tennessee 83,

Austin Peay 54

Scotty Hopson scored 16 points and Cameron Tatum had 15 off the bench as the Volunteers beat the Governors.

At Arkansas 130,

Alcorn St. 68

Arkansas' Rotnei Clarke scored 51 points, making a Southeastern Conference-record 13 three-pointers in 17 tries from long range.
