Seattle U. Men's Hoops | Five keys to the season
Charles Garcia should give the Redhawks a dependable big man every night, and coach Cameron Dollar is also high on 6-foot-8 sophomore forward Gavin Gilmore
Handle the transition
This is an adventure into the unknown for both the team and for Dollar, who had been an assistant at Washington the past seven seasons and now has his first Division I head-coaching job at age 33. There figures to be a bit of a learning curve for all involved.
Handle the expectations
The team's highlight player figures to be 6-foot-10 center Charles Garcia, who signed last year with UW and already has opened eyes with a 27-point performance in an exhibition win over Pacific Lutheran. Dealing with the attention will be key for the JC transfer.
Hit the outside shots
Dollar points to this as one of the big on-court keys for the Redhawks, who will count primarily on Chris Gweth, Aaron Broussard and Ricky Berry for three-point shooting.
Deal with the travel
The most challenging part of Seattle U.'s schedule comes early as the Redhawks will play eight games from Nov. 14 to Nov. 28, six on the road, including contests at Oklahoma State and Utah. In fact, 10 of the team's first 14 games are on the road.
Get some help inside
Garcia should give the Redhawks a dependable big man every night, and Dollar is also high on 6-8 sophomore forward Gavin Gilmore of Pasco. But the team will need to develop some depth up front.
Schedule highlights
• The home slate starts off with one of the team's highlight games as Fresno State comes to town Thursday for a 7:10 p.m. tip at KeyArena in the Elgin Baylor Classic, honoring the former Seattle U. great.

• The Redhawks play two Pac-10 teams, both on the road — Jan. 6 at Oregon State and Jan. 26 at UW, a game that will also match Dollar and his longtime mentor, Lorenzo Romar.
• The Redhawks will play at Oklahoma State on Saturday and at Utah on Nov. 24.
