College Basketball | Gonzaga coach Mark Few mocks UW's proposal to resume series
Gonzaga basketball coach Mark Few sounds unimpressed by a recent proposal from the Washington Huskies that the teams resume their stalled rivalry with three games in a row at KeyArena in Seattle.
SPOKANE — Gonzaga basketball coach Mark Few sounds unimpressed by a recent proposal from the Washington Huskies that the teams resume their stalled rivalry with three games in a row at KeyArena in Seattle.
"The chances of that happening are about the same as Bigfoot having my baby," Few told SI.com. "That's like me saying, Gonzaga proposes a five-year deal at Spokane Arena. There, I just made a proposal. That's as logical as this deal [would be]."
Earlier in the week, Gonzaga athletic director Mike Roth said he wanted the series to resume, with games played at campus sites.
Gonzaga and Washington played each year from 1997 to 2006, with the Zags winning eight of the last nine games before Washington canceled the series.
"The series should start in Spokane because Washington canceled the series," Few told SI.com. "If they want to do a home-and-home, that's fine. If they don't, let's all move on."
Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar told SI.com he didn't see the KeyArena issue as a deal-breaker. "We just sent out the proposal," Romar said. "It's too early for me to start marking territory."
