SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Ohio State star Chris "Beanie" Wells isn't ready to say whether the Fiesta Bowl will be his last game for the Buckeyes.
"I personally feel like I haven't done enough at Ohio State, the things I wanted to accomplish here, to move on to the next level," the junior running back said Thursday.
Asked if that meant he was leaning toward staying at Ohio State for another season, Wells said: "I don't want to say I'm leaning toward staying or I'm leaning toward going. All I'm saying is I do want to be the best Buckeye to ever come through here."
The 10th-ranked Buckeyes (10-2) play third-ranked Texas (11-1) on Monday.
Two weeks ago, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel suggested it should be an easy decision considering he thinks Wells will be a top draft choice and that it may be time to go. Wells said Thursday it's not so simple.
Wells ran for 1,091 yards and eight touchdowns despite missing three games after injuring his foot in the season opener.
Thursday's chat with the media was the first time Wells has been available to comment on Tressel's remark on his NFL future.
"If it were me, it wouldn't be tough," Tressel said Dec. 17 of Wells' impending decision. "In my opinion, he ought to be one of the first five guys picked."
Stoops' big payday
NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops earned $3 million when the calendar flipped.
A clause in Stoops' contract — approved in 2005 by the university's board of regents — provided for the 48-year-old coach to receive a so-called "stay bonus" of $3 million after completing 10 seasons as the Sooners' coach.
No. 2 Oklahoma plays No. 1 Florida in the BCS championship game in Miami on Thursday.
"I think it's pretty special that I've been able to be a part of this program for the last 10 years and to build it back to a pretty strong position in college football," Stoops said. "Year in and year out, we seem to be in that position. And again, it isn't me. It's everybody."
Stoops, one of the nation's highest-paid coaches, has a 109-23 record at Oklahoma, having guided the Sooners to six Big 12 Conference titles and the 2000 national championship. He already receives annual raises of $150,000 under a contract that runs through December 2013. Stoops' 2008 guaranteed annual income was $2.775 million.
Notes
• Players declaring for the draft Thursday included Iowa junior RB Shon Greene and Kansas State junior QB Josh Freeman.
• California coach Jeff Tedford has agreed to a two-year contract extension that takes him through the 2015 season. The Golden Bears completed a 9-4 season on Saturday by beating Miami 24-17 in the Emerald Bowl. It was Cal's fifth victory in a school-record six consecutive bowl appearances under Tedford.
• Tulsa coach Todd Graham has agreed to a new 10-year contract that could keep him with the Golden Hurricane through the 2018 season.
Graham, who has coached Tulsa to its first back-to-back 10-win seasons in school history, agreed to the extension only two days after offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn left Tulsa to take the same position at Auburn.
The Golden Hurricane (10-3) will face Ball State (12-1) in the GMAC Bowl on Tuesday.
