Men's College Basketball | No. 1 North Carolina routs Oregon
Tyler Hansbrough, who missed three weeks of practice and three games because of a leg injury, played his second game of the season and scored 16 points to help top-ranked North Carolina post a 98-69 victory over Oregon in the semifinals of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.
LAHAINA, Hawaii -- Tyler Hansbrough, who missed three weeks of practice and three games because of a leg injury, played his second game of the season and scored 16 points to help top-ranked North Carolina post a 98-69 victory over Oregon in the semifinals of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.
North Carolina (5-0) will play No. 8 Notre Dame tonight for the tournament championship. The Fighting Irish beat No. 6 Texas 81-80 in the semifinals in the season's first matchup of Top 10 teams.
Hansbrough, last season's national player of the year, scored 13 points in 25 minutes Friday in an 84-67 victory over UC Santa Barbara after missing games for the first time in his college career because of a stress reaction in his right leg.
Hansbrough tweaked his left ankle at the end of the game against the Gauchos and didn't play in the Tar Heels' 115-70 opening-round win over Chaminade. That wasn't a real surprise because coach Roy Williams had indicated he wouldn't play the senior in all three games on Maui.
Williams said after the Chaminade game that Hansbrough would have played if it "had been for the national championship."
Danny Green scored 21 points for North Carolina and freshman Ed Davis had 11 points and 13 rebounds. The Tar Heels won the Maui Invitational in 1999 and 2004.
Michael Dunigan scored 18 points to lead Oregon (3-2).
Other Pac-10 game
Arizona 69, Santa Clara 66
Chase Budinger scored 22 points and had a hand in a key turnover as the Wildcats (3-1) beat the Broncos (1-4) in Athens, Ga.
Arizona trailed the entire second half until a Jordan Hill dunk gave it a 67-66 lead with 2:09 left in the game. Hill's dunk was the result of one of two Santa Clara turnovers in the game's final minutes, which helped to rally the Wildcats at the NIT Season Tipoff.
After an entry pass by Michael Santos intended for John Bryant sailed out of bounds, Arizona took over possession. With 6.8 seconds remaining, Jamelle Horne scored a dunk to ice the win.

Hill had 20 points for Arizona on 8-of-11 shooting.
Santa Clara was led by 24 points from Bryant, and 21 by Kevin Foster.
Other Top 10 games
At No. 4 Pittsburgh 74, Belmont 60
Sam Young scored 33 points despite not getting his first basket until more than 11 minutes into the game and the Panthers (5-0) shut down the outside shooting of Belmont (1-2).
Pittsburgh won despite being without sophomore center DeJuan Blair because of right-knee inflammation. Blair, averaging 17.5 points, developed the problem after having 27 points and 18 rebounds during an 86-60 victory over Division II Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday -- Pitt's second game in less than 24 hours.
No. 8 Notre Dame 81,
No. 6 Texas 80
Luke Harangody had 29 points and 13 rebounds and the Irish (4-0) edged the Longhorns (3-1) in the semifinals of the EA Sports Maui Invitational.
Harangody, the Big East Conference player of the year last season as a sophomore, was his usual force inside in a game that saw the teams combine for 49 three-point attempts. Notre Dame won that battle as well, making 11 from beyond the arc while the Longhorns made eight.
Harangody missed two free throws with 3.5 seconds left and the Irish leading 81-80. A.J. Abrams, Texas' top three-point shooter, got off a shot from just before half court but it bounced off the rim.
Notes
• Jonny Flynn scored 25 points to help Syracuse beat No. 22 Kansas 89-81 in overtime in the championship game of the CBE Classic in Kansas City, Mo. Sherron Collins scored 21 points for Kansas.
• USC sophomore forward Kasey Cunningham is to have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee today to remove a piece of torn cartilage.
