WACO, Texas — Top-ranked Oklahoma already was looking ahead, not taking time to celebrate another lopsided victory over Baylor.

Finally, the much-anticipated annual matchup against Texas is next on the schedule.

"Everybody in the locker room is fired up about it, and that week is here," coach Bob Stoops said minutes after the Sooners' 49-17 victory at Baylor. "You want an opportunity to win the [Big 12] South and continue to compete for a national championship. ... We've handled our business up to this point."

So have the fifth-ranked Longhorns, leading to another top-five showdown for their annual second-Saturday-in-October meeting during the Texas State Fair in Dallas.

"You get a win, it sets you up down the road to keep chugging away," Oklahoma linebacker Ryan Reynolds said.

Ranked No. 1 for the first season since 2003 and playing Baylor, a team they have never lost against, the Sooners (5-0) made sure Saturday there was no chance of an upset before the Texas game.

The Sooners remained No. 1 in the Associated Press poll released Sunday, their record 97th time at the top. Texas, also 5-0 after a 38-14 victory Saturday night at Colorado, stayed at No. 5 in the new poll.

The Sooners and Longhorns will be meeting for the 103rd time, and it will be the fourth time in eight seasons both are ranked among the top five.

Notes

• Talk-show host David Letterman should love this: At No. 25 in the Associated Press poll is his alma mater, Ball State. The Cardinals (6-0) of Muncie, Ind., are in the media poll for the first time.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame's 4-1 start doesn't measure up to the 27 other seasons in which the Fighting Irish had one loss in the first five games. The difference: This time they are unranked in the AP poll. Every other season in which the Fighting Irish were either 4-1 or 3-1-1 and there was a poll, they were ranked.

Notre Dame went 3-9 last season.

• Nebraska coach Bo Pelini said he would try to contact Missouri coach Gary Pinkel, a former Washington offensive coordinator, to discuss Tigers quarterback Chase Daniel's comments about the Cornhuskers being a dirty team.

Daniel said a Nebraska player spit on him before Saturday night's game, which Missouri won 52-17. Daniel also told reporters after the game that Nebraska players threw footballs at the Tigers as they were warming up.

Pelini said, "I'm going to investigate it and find out because that's unacceptable if something like that happened. And I would hope that the opposing coaching staff would let me know if something like that happened."

• Miami linebacker Colin McCarthy will miss the rest of the season because of a shoulder injury suffered in practice last week.
