Lake Union Crew won two championships, and the Everett Rowing Association won the men's lightweight eight title at the US Rowing Youth National Championships on Sunday on Harsha Lake in Batavia, Ohio.
Lake Union Crew's Cara Linnenkohl pulled away from Pittsford Crew's Emily Eiffert over the final 500 meters to win women's single sculls by nearly 7 seconds. Linnenkohl's time was 8 minutes, 18.60 seconds.
Lake Union's lightweight four with coxswain won in 6:42.60, beating San Diego Rowing Club by 3.54 seconds. The rowers were Thomas Davidson, Noah Buckley, Barrett Dickey, Michael Wales and coxswain Blair Edwards.
Everett's lightweight eight won in 6:02.67, beating runner-up McCallie (Tenn.) School by more than 4 seconds. Members of Everett's crew were Simon Wold, Gabe Gribler, Tucker Keyes, Tore Werner, Allen Cox, Joel Hummel, Trevor Liska, Aaron Meyers and coxswain Jordan Kellett.
The event is for high-school-age rowers.

• Jamie Nilsen of Federal Way, who starred the past four seasons at shortstop for Central Washington, has signed a free-agent contract with the Kansas City Royals. The two-time Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year will begin his first professional season with the Royals' Arizona League team on June 22.
• The Seattle University men's soccer team's 2008 schedule features nine matches against Division I competition, as well as exhibitions against the Seattle Sounders (Aug. 19) and Washington (Aug. 22).
The Redhawks' regular season begins in Irvine, Calif., where they will face Cleveland State on Aug. 30. The team opens its home season Sept. 5 against Chico State.
• Leslie Folsom shot a 5-over 79 on her home course to lead the field after the first round of qualifying in the SWGA City Championship at Rainier Golf & Country Club.
• Chris Maletis of Portland set the pace in the first round of stroke-play qualifying in the PNGA Men's Master 40 tournament, carding a 4-under 68 at The Home Course in DuPont.
• Seo Hee Moon of Mukilteo shot an 8-over 81 and Catherine Allen of Bellingham a 15-over 88 in the first round of the Women's U.S. Amateur Publinx Championship in Erin, Wis.
