WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Huskies sophomore Nick Taylor finished tied for second to lead the Washington men's golf team to a seventh-place finish in the final round of the NCAA men's golf championship Saturday.

Taylor shot a 3-over 75 to finish three shots back of the titlist, UCLA's Kevin Chappell. The Bruins also took the team title, holding off second-place Stanford and third-place USC.

Taylor shot the lowest round of the tournament, a 6-under 66 on Thursday.

Chappell finished the tournament at 2-under 286. The Pac-10 player of the year was the only player to finish the tourney under par.

Indiana's Jorge Campillo tied with Taylor, with a 1-over 289. Rickie Fowler of Oklahoma State and Sihwan Kim of Stanford tied for fourth at 6-over 294.

Clemson's Kyle Stanley, a Gig Harbor resident who attended Tacoma's Bellarmine Prep, shot a 10-over 82 that sent him from second into a tie for seventh. Stanley was the runner-up last year.

UCLA finished the four-day tournament with a 42-over score of 1,194, one stroke better than defending champion Stanford. USC finished two strokes back at 1,196. Oklahoma State, and Clemson rounded out the top five.

As a team, Washington shot a 56-over 1,208. Senior Zach Bixler tied for 23rd at 15-over 303. Freshman Tze Huang Choo tied for 55th (22-over 310). Sophomore Darren Wallace tied for 64th (25-over 313), and junior John Wise finished 78th (35-over 323).
