The University of Washington volleyball team will play host to two home tournaments and will travel to Honolulu for the 2008 season, according to the schedule released Wednesday.
Also, Washington was recently selected as the West Regional site, one of four sites picked by the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee. The NCAA tournament opens with first and second round games Dec. 4-6.
The Huskies will play in four tournaments before the start of Pac-10 Conference play on Sept. 26.
Washington opens the season with a two-day tournament in Bozeman, Mont., from Aug. 29-30. The Huskies then will host the Northwest Challenge Sept. 4-6. The UW will be joined at the tournament by Gonzaga, Boise State and Portland State.
The Huskies travel to the Rainbow Wahine Invitational from Sept. 11-13 at the University of Hawaii.
The final tournament is Sept. 18-19, and will be hosted by both the Huskies and Seattle University.

lose in tennis
Washington freshman Venise Chan lost in two sets Wednesday in the first round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Chan, ranked 37th, lost to Duke's 24th-ranked Reka Zsilinszka, 6-2, 7-5.
Washington State University senior Ekaterina Burduli won the first set but South Carolina's Gira Schofield, ranked 45th, rallied for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory.
Burduli, ranked 47th, was looking to become the first Cougars player to advance past the first round at the NCAA Championships.

Notes
• Gonzaga University hired Michelle Elliott as an assistant women's basketball coach. Elliott just finished a two-year playing career for the Zags. She fills the spot left by Jennifer Mountain, who took over as head coach at Santa Clara University.
• Four Gonzaga University baseball players earned All-West Coast Conference honors. Outfielder Drew Heid, second baseman Evan Wells, and pitchers Matt Fields and Cody Martin received honorable mention. Martin was also named to the WCC All-Freshman team.
