It was "moving day" Tuesday at the Washington Open Invitational and ex-Washington Husky Derek Berg and Ryan Benzel traveled up the leaderboard.
Berg, an amateur who plays out of Trilogy Golf Club, shot a 4-under 67 and enters today's final round at Glendale Golf and Country Club tied with Brian Nosler at 4-under 138. Nosler shot 69 Tuesday.
Nosler is a pro from Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Ore., who played at Washington and Arizona State. He was a semifinalist in the 2001 U.S. Amateur.
Berg is seeking his third Northwest "major." He won the Northwest Open Invitational in 2005 and 2006.
Benzel, who made the cut at the PGA Championship last August, had the day's low round of 66 and is in third place at 139. Benzel, head pro at Mill Creek Country Club, opened with a 2-over 73 Monday.
Chuck Milne, from the Vanco Driving Range in Vancouver, Wash., is fourth at 140 after a 71. Defending champion Tim Feenstra, now an assistant pro at Broadmoor Golf Club, shot a 1-under 70 and is in a tie with Corey Prugh of Spokane for fifth place at 141.
First-round leader Keith Coleman faded into the pack with a 77 Tuesday after opening with a 66.
The tournament, sponsored by Toyota of Bellevue, concludes today and leaders will tee off at 11:30 a.m. Admission is free.
UW baseball beats Lewis-Clark, 6-2
Right fielder Kyle Conley hit his 18th home run of the season as the Washington baseball team beat NAIA school Lewis-Clark State, 6-2, Tuesday evening at Husky Ballpark.
UW second baseman Bradley Boyer also hit a home run, and UW sophomore starter Cam Nobles (5-4) allowed just one hit, a solo homer, over his five innings for the win.
The Huskies wrap up the regular season at home against No. 16 Stanford Friday through Sunday.
