California's David Cooper hit a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth to drive in the winning run as the eighth-ranked Bears beat Washington 5-4 Sunday in Berkeley.

Cal (26-10-2 overall, 7-5 Pac-10) had rallied for four runs in the seventh to overcome a 4-0 Washington lead. Washington reliever Paul Dickey (0-1) came on to begin the ninth; he struck out one, walked one and allowed one run.

The victory gave the Golden Bears a 2-1 series win. The Huskies fell to 24-14, 4-5.

More baseball

Host Arizona came from behind for the third straight game and completed a three-game sweep of Washington State with a 4-2 win. The Wildcats (25-11, 6-6 Pac-10) scored twice in the eighth to beat WSU (19-18, 3-9).

Cody Martin threw a one-run complete game as Gonzaga (26-16, 5-6 West Coast Conference) defeated visiting University of Portland 5-1.

• Central Washington (22-14) swept visiting Dixie State College of Utah 12-5 and 10-7 in a doubleheader at Tomlinson Field.

Western Washington ace Jessica Rosencrants returned from injury to toss a four-hitter in the Vikings' 4-1 defeat of CWU in the nightcap of a doubleheader in Bellingham. Central (15-21, 10-6 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) won the opener 13-1. Holly Rossman hit a grand slam in the third inning and finished 4 for 4. WWU is 22-16, 10-6.

First-place finishes by Jordan Malloch of Seattle in two single-canoe events at the Olympic trials in Oklahoma City put him in position to earn a berth on the Beijing team.

Other sports

Western Washington placed second at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's golf tournament in New Mexico.

• The Washington men placed 11th at the U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford Golf Course, with a 50-over 890 total.

• The Washington State women's crew won 11 of 12 races at the Stanford Invitational this past weekend.

• The Washington State men's track team was selected men's team of the meet at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays in Walnut, Calif. Trent Arrivey won the men's high jump (7-0 ½).
