NW Briefs | Haughian's 15 strikeouts lift Washington Huskies to 1-0 baseball win
Junior left-hander Nick Haughian strikes out 15 as the Washington Huskies defeat Arizona 1-0 in a Pac-10 baseball game at Safeco Field.
Junior left-hander Nick Haughian struck out a career-high 15 in a two-hit shutout as Washington's baseball team edged No. 18 Arizona 1-0 Friday night in front of 5,187 fans at Safeco Field.
Senior right fielder Andy Lentz broke a scoreless tie with a run-scoring double in the seventh and finished 2 for 3.
The Huskies' series with the Wildcats continues today at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Husky Ballpark.
Haughian (3-2) struck out the first six hitters and seven of the first eight for UW (19-8 overall, 2-2 Pac-10). He allowed a double in the second, a single in the fourth and walked three in nine innings. All-American Preston Guilmet (3-2) allowed just four hits for Arizona (14-9, 2-5).
In the seventh, UW's Brian Pearl drew a one-out walk, and catcher Joey Dunn followed with a bunt single. Guilmet's throw to first got by the first baseman, sending Pearl to third. Lentz then lined a double to right-center field.

UW softball beats Cal
Freshman pitcher Aleah Macon scattered four hits and struck out nine to lead No. 25 Washington past No. 23 California 2-1 in a Pac-10 game at Husky Softball Stadium.
The Huskies (23-11-1, 2-2 Pac-10) scored both runs with two outs in the third. Jace Williams had an RBI double and scored on an error.
The Huskies host No. 7 Stanford today at 3 p.m., and Sunday at noon.
Soccer sales at 35,000
Tickets for the soccer match between the Mexico and China men's national teams at Qwest Field April 16 have surpassed 35,000, according to a statement from MLS Seattle.

Game organizers are opening the upper level on the east side of the stadium. Those seats are at or near midfield, and will cost $20 to $30.

• Kyle Mihaylo had a three-run triple in a five-run first and went for 4 for 4 as UC Davis (19-8) beat Washington State (16-11) 12-5 in Pullman. Mihaylo also had two doubles, a homer and five RBI.
• Senior Nate Rylaarsdam went 3 for 5 and drove in the winning run in the ninth as Central Washington (16-11, 10-3) beat Northwest Nazarene (21-13, 5-9) 5-4, but then lost 8-6.

• Megan Jendrick from Puyallup won the 200-meter breaststroke at the Stanford Grand Prix and set a pool record of 2:25.36. Tara Kirk from Bremerton was fifth in 2:30.50. Ariana Kukors from Auburn won the B final in 2:29.71.
• No. 23 UW (13-6, 1-2) beat No. 65 Arizona 4-3 in Pac-10 men's tennis in Tucson.
• Washington (11-8, 1-5) beat Arizona 4-0 in Pac-10 women's tennis at Nordstrom Tennis Center. No. 12 Arizona State (13-4, 5-2) beat WSU (11-9, 0-6) 5-2 in Pullman.
• Washington shot a first-round 22-over 310 and is tied for 15th at the PING/ASU women's golf invitational.
